The newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab today promised to empower the youth through initiatives, with CM Maryam Nawaz announcing electric bikes, followed by iPads and free bus services to help students reduce transport costs. The country's first woman CM has approved two major transport projects in Punjab and as per her instructions, around 20,000 electric bikes and 657 public buses will hit the roads.

Online applications for free e-bike scheme

Online applications for the free e-bike program will open next month and Punjab Bank is ready to support the most populous regions of the country by providing student loans. Under the new system, schools and university students can buy e-bikes at the lowest price thanks to the ease of payment.

Separate quotas for male and female students

In the first phase, the program will be implemented in major cities like Lahore, Islamabad, Multan and Faisalabad and is planned to be extended to smaller cities in Punjab. There will be separate quotas for male and female students in the programme. The process of approving student applications for the e-bike program will be carefully managed to ensure it is successful and efficient.

Interested candidates can get the approval by visiting in May this year and submitting the application to the government platform. Punjab CM also ordered to arrange buses for students in all tehsils of Punjab and reduce advance payments of students.

Evaluation of the progress of the transport project

In the meeting with senior officials, CM Maryam reviewed the progress of the transport project to increase the convenience of students. In the first phase, the buses will be put into service in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur. In a similar development, Maryam Nawaz proposed to reduce the cost of low-income housing and set a date to take out land for large-scale housing construction in the city. It also introduced measures to reduce the overall cost of housing.
